Past Years Work

This week I have added a lot of older works to my etsy store.  I've marked down the pricing on everything in my store since I need to try to clear out space.  All of the works in my store will be hard to part with but I'll just be happy they will be going to someone that can enjoy them.  In the past I've sold paintings or sculptures to people and they were so sweet sending me pictures of my work in their home.

One thing about putting pictures of my work on the internet is the variations in colors that can be changed due to different computer screens. For example this painting "Meaning of Life" on my screen looks blue. Where the real painting is more of a dark gray. So I'm working hard on trying to get the closes match of my work in my store. But I can't promise that your computer screen may show you a different color.

So I have a busy weekend ahead of me. I will be adding more pieces this weekend so please check back.  In the next week I should have all my kitty brooches up for sale. Then I can begin on some really fun ideas I have for Christmas ornaments and cards! I hope everyone will take the time to check out my etsy store and leave me comments here one what you think. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

The Many Faces of a Cat

Fall is around the corner here in Kentucky. This week I started waking up to the morning dew on the the windows and the crisp cool air making me want to grab a jacket before heading out. Farmers are out in the fields harvesting this years crops. My taste buds are tingling wanting a taste of a fall apple dipped in caramel with a glass of apple cider and anything pumpkin. What does fall make you excited about?

Kitty Brooches in progress by Ashley Daugherty
I've been sculpting ideas for brooches that I hope to put up in my shop in the next couple weeks. The brooches will be fun to wear during Halloween or on a winter jacket.

I was able to catch Lily smacking around one of the brooches. Unsure if she was telling me this one was her favorite or cat don't wear glasses.

Look at those green eyes saying, "I didn't do it."

New Cat Sculptures

Since the last post I’ve been playing with ideas from my sketchbook.  I’m jumping from painting to sculpting trying out different styles for cat sculptures from realistic to cartoon. So far the cartoon cat sculptures are winning me over the realistic.

Right now if you go to the Kitty Sweetums Etsy Store you will find 4 original paintings and these 3 sculptures. Also, in the next couple of weeks I will be adding older paintings that don’t belong in the Kitty Sweetums store.  I’m working on cleaning out past paintings that are just sitting in portfolios. They will be ranging in prices depending on the size and time spent. These paintings deserve to go to homes where they can be displayed and loved.

Kitty Paintings

Today I am sharing three new paintings I have enjoyed working on for the last couple weeks.

Title: Cat Spirit
First painting is of the Cat Spirit rising above the tree line during a full moon. I already have the next painting idea sketched out to start a series of paintings that include the Cat Spirit. I can not wait to start painting!

Title: Poppies #1
Title: Poppies #2

The last two paintings are called Poppies #1 and Poppies #2. These paintings are a diptych that go together.  I put two of my favorite things together cats and poppies!

I would love to get suggestions on what type of products everyone would be interested in the future. I plan to sale original paintings along with prints at a cheaper price. What do you think about of cat magnets, postcards, stickers, and etc? I have also thought about doing cat sculptures. I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far!

Sketches & Summer Days

The long heat wave here in KY is causing everyone along with myself staying inside.  Trying to beat the heat my husband, and I headed to the farmers market early this morning.  We have been introduced to new vegetables like the white eggplant, orange zucchini, and the patty pan squash.  Favorite thing to cook with the white eggplant right now is Eggplant Parmesan by Mario Batali.

This week I will be officially getting back to working on new artwork, and I have lots of sketches to work from. I just threw together a few quick sketches below from my sketchbook that may be in future work. I'm really excited about getting a paint brush back in my hands. Plus, produce new work that puts a smile on everyone's faces.

If you have Netflix and love documentaries, I watched a wonderful and inspiring film called "The Cats of  Mirikitani" tonight. The filmmaker takes in Japanese-American artist Jimmy Mirikitani to get him off the streets of New York. During the documentary, Jimmy talks about his complicated past and how he was forced during WWI to stay several years in the internment camp. Great film!

Welcome to the Kitty Sweetums Blog! Right now, the blog is under construction.  So you can get an idea of what is to come of Kitty Sweetums here what you need to know.

As a small child, I’ve had a passion for doing artwork.  Art has been a great way to escape from the world and join a place of imagination. I’ve always drawn and painted but in 2004, I began to play with sculpting.  All of my artwork beings with my imagination or inspiration by my surroundings then are drawn out on paper.  From there I decide what medium I’d like to use from my sketches.

Kitty Sweetums is inspired from my lovely but at times strange house cats.  As the months go by I hope to begin a series of collections of cat themes.  For all the cat lovers like me, I hope to have lovely paintings, sculpture, cards, ornaments, and more.

I’d love it if you joined my journey by following my blog or keeping up with me on Facebook. I plan to have a Flickr account soon too.  Until, the next post I’d like to thank you for visiting and come back to check out my future post.
